EYE RING

Defined irises
without circle lenses

A procedure that places a ring around the iris to make it look larger.

WHY OLIM EYE RING

Before it's cosmetic,
it's eye surgery

Eye Ring surgery places a ring in the eye. That's why OLIM Eye Clinic Gangnam looks at your eye health before appearance—and if the surgery isn't right for your eyes, we'll tell you.

WHAT IS

A Korea MFDS-approved eye implant

A cosmetic procedure that places a circular ring approved by Korea MFDS around the iris to make it look larger. It is performed after detailed tests and an AI simulation.

PROCESS

How the surgery works

  1. Incisions

Small incisions are made above and below in the conjunctiva.

  2. Creating space

An instrument creates space for the ring.

  3. Placing the ring

The ring is hooked onto an instrument and positioned.

  4. Joining the ends

Both ends of the ring are joined through the opposite incision.

  5. Closing

The incisions are sutured and finished with a tissue adhesive.

  6. Done

The ring settles securely in place.

PACKAGE

Can be planned with vision correction

Depending on your eyes, we plan it together with vision correction surgery. Both can't be done on the same day; we allow a recovery period after one before doing the other.

BEFORE SURGERY

Not every eye
is a candidate

Eye Ring is a cosmetic surgery that changes appearance, not vision. A detailed pre-op exam checks pupil size, corneal health and other eye conditions, and surgery may not be possible in the cases below.

Eye surface · conjunctiva
  • Defects in the limbal conjunctiva
  • Thin conjunctiva and Tenon's capsule
  • Severe adhesions under the conjunctiva that make it hard to create space
  • Previous pterygium surgery
  • Severe dry eye
Eyelids · other conditions
  • Glaucoma, retinal disease or other conditions that need surgery
  • Eyelid inflammation
  • Thyroid eye disease
  • Eyes that don't close fully (lagophthalmos)
  • Tattooed eyeliner or other eyelid tattoos
RECOVERY

How recovery
goes after surgery

You can return to daily activities the next day, but your eyes may look red and swollen for a while. Recovery speed varies from person to person.

  1. Day of surgery

Performed under numbing eye drops. About 20–30 minutes per eye, about 1 hour for both.

  2. Next day

You can go about daily life. Subconjunctival bleeding (blood visible in the white of the eye) or redness may appear.

  3. Around 2 weeks

Conjunctival swelling, bleeding, redness and a foreign-body feeling usually improve within 2 weeks.

  4. Up to 1 month

For some people, swelling and redness can last up to a month. Avoid eye makeup and saunas during this time.

  5. Regular check-ups

The steroid eye drops used after surgery can raise eye pressure, so regular check-ups are essential.

RISK

Risks to know before deciding

Like any surgery, Eye Ring can have complications. Results depend on your eyes—consult thoroughly before deciding.

FAQ

FAQ

For anything else, ask us on WhatsApp.

How long do surgery and recovery take?

Surgery takes about 1 hour, and you can return to daily activities the next day.

What side effects can occur?

Common surgical side effects such as pain, redness, subconjunctival bleeding, conjunctival swelling and a foreign-body feeling can occur.

How is it different from LASIK or LASEK?

LASIK and LASEK reshape the cornea to correct vision. Eye Ring leaves the cornea untouched and places a ring between the conjunctiva and sclera around the iris to make it look larger. It's a cosmetic surgery and doesn't change your vision.

What kind of anesthesia is used?

It's done under numbing eye drops.

Can the exam and surgery be done on the same day?

Depending on your eyes, the exam through surgery can be done the same day. Surgery takes 20–30 minutes per eye, about 1 hour for both.

Can I have it on the same day as vision correction?

It can be planned together with vision correction such as LASIK, LASEK or SMILE, but both can't be done on the same day. We proceed after about 1.5–2 months of recovery from the first surgery.

Once the ring is in, does it stay?

If there are no particular problems, it can stay, but it can be removed or replaced if needed. You still need regular check-ups after the ring is placed.

What tests are done before surgery?

We check pupil size, corneal health, conjunctival thickness, and other eye conditions such as glaucoma or retinal disease. Depending on the results, surgery may not be possible.
